The hinged top lid opens to reveal the phonograph mechanism, including a brass-toned tone arm and a green felt-covered platter. A brass plaque inside the lid reads "Edison Disc Phonograph" and notes "Thomas A. Edison Inc., Orange, N.J. U.S.A." with a patent date of January 20, 1903.
